Damian and Dakota have been dating since summer 2012. They were first introduced through her sister who was a big fan of Damian. According to an interview with the couple, they met at the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada while he was competing for Team USA and she cheered on her family from stands – this would mark their first meeting!
Dakota has always had an interest in athletes- hockey stars as well as other types of sports people– so when he found out that Damian competed in track & field events, it seemed like fate! And now because he is one of America’s favorite Idol winners (from season 11), there are many pictures of them together floating around all over social media platforms such as Instagram.

In an interview, she was asked what it’s like to date a famous person and how does that affect her life? Dakota responded by saying “It can be tough at times because we’re both so busy. I’m always traveling with him when he competes on the road. The rumors that she cheated on him with another man are false. Dakota and Damian have been in a long-distance relationship for the better part of two years, so it is understandable how these speculations came about.
Damian told reporters “I would never do anything to hurt her or make her feel like I don’t care.” He went on by saying he loves his girlfriend very much and has full faith they will work out their issues as well.
Dakota’s response was far more personal: “”First off, I want to say this is not true,” she told ET Canada exclusively. “It hurts me because people who know us know we’re best friends and love each other deeply.””
